Coincide with the 50th anniversary of IEEE GLOBECOM (Global Telecommunications Conference) this year, the event organizer takes this unique opportunity to extend the exhibition to 9 Technical Symposia, Tutorials and Workshops, Design and Developers and a Student Program, to invite global academia research institutes to release the latest technology findings. As the world trend focusing on WiMAX technology, Institute for Information Industry (III) has been investing prolonged period of time to actively participate in the standardizing of core technology and has been successfully positioned and recognized in the international mainstream, and creating the competitiveness of intellectual property rights, therefore, it is an honor for III to represent Taiwan to attend this global annual event for the communication industry.

| VP and Director General of Networks and Multimedia Institute (NMI) in III , Dr. Pao-Chung, Ho expressed“ it is a big recognition for III in the WiMAX research to attend this event in D.C., NMI will take this opportunity not only to introduce its internet protocols, products and related technologies that NMI withhold including WiMAX base station, 2G / 2.5G / 3G middleware and so on, but also seeking international partners and business development on Roadmap research and concepts through participation this year ”. |
| |
| In particular, the Science and Technology Advisory Group (STAG) of Executive Yuan authorized III, Industrial Technology Research Institute (ITRI), and other government departments, with the direction of Mr. H.T. Kung, advisor of STAG has created the first“MTube”in the world, it is a powerful mobile device for WiMAX with capability to access broadband wirelessly. It is the first debut in international conference. MTube is a handheld with the power of a laptop, with the size only 8.5x8.5x 2.0 cm Linux device with a 1 GHz x 86 CPU and a 2.8 inch VGA touch screen, a perfect size to fit into a pocket, and light weight of 150g . Most important of all, from parts to softwares are all R&D in Taiwan which anticipate, the earliest, to mass production in 2009. |

Not only MTube is the first R&D technology product for WiMAX in the world, Dr. Pao-Chung, Ho of NMI in III further states“III has aggressively participate in the standardization of IEEE802.16j and successfully work into international standard mainstream system, so far 170 proposals submitted, 67 passed, next to Nortel and Fujitsu as the top 3 in the world. In Aug. of this year, the preliminary 802.16j standard has been officially announced, which III has contributed nearly 30%. With the passed on standardization proposal of 802.16j, III at the same time seeding WiMAX Relay key patent worldwide to set up the environment for the advantage of obtaining international patent authorization for Taiwanese vendors, in turn cost down and raise profit. Therefore, NMI has another mission to take is to penetrate the international image and branding of‘III, Taiwan' to the world and further renowned Taiwan as the kingdom of computer industry”. |
